Art Classes Brisbane

An artist and so much more.......

Many readers will already be familiar with the name Janet Ann (Skinner) and of the activities of Artists Out & About Australia. I am sure for some of you, it may be the first time you have happened upon this site. Maybe you would like to know a little about the service, Janet's future goals and what you can expect from Artists Out & About.

Janet Skinner

Janet arrived in Australia in 1988, a Pom, fresh off the boat so to speak. She had, had an art background throughout her career in the UK and had, had the opportunity to design many hundreds of costumes, gowns and props for the industry. However life took a turn, like sometimes it does, and after several operations on her throat, her voice was taken. It was 6 years before she could hold a conversation. She says "I'm a firm believer that everything happens for a reason," and her pathway in life then took on the direction of expressing herself through her art. Between 1992 and 2008, Janet had completed some 104 works from life of our railway history. She painted in oil, water colour and pastel. As her voice returned she began to teach, and although her study and varied background in art in the UK provided her with the building blocks, it has been the sheer volume of work that has provided Janet with the knowledge to teach most subjects and media in art.

What Janet has found over the years is the enormous interest, enthusiasm and yearning from students wishing to learn art, from both children and adults, with the eldest student being in her eighties and the youngest just eight.

What she is striving to provide is an environment where people of all levels can learn, are accepted for and feel comfortable with the ability that they have; that they are informed and encouraged, but most of all that; they can continue along their pathway of creativity with vision.

Anyone Can Draw

Intensive one day 'Sunday' courses in defined areas, to suit students at varying levels. The course covers material that could normally take time, equal to that of six or seven weekly classes and give students a head start in areas that they need help with. They are really great days, always approached with overwhelming enthusiasm in a relaxed and happy environment.

Arana Hills Studio (Northside Brisbane)
Contour & Gesture Drawing - $45.00
An intensive one day workshop on drawing and learning to free up - if you go to a singing teacher, you will be taught breathing excercises, before a song. You will not sing those excercises to an audience. As with drawing, you should not expect to 'hang' anything for some time. Your progress is charted not on paper, but in the increased knowledge with which you look at life around you. Do not be afraid of making technical errors. The sooner you make the first thousand mistakes the sooner you will be able to correct them. This is a great workshop, fun and informative.
Rainforest & Rockpools - Tamborine Mountain
9:30am - 3pm - $100.00 with a great restuarant lunch included.
RAINFOREST, ROCK POOLS & WATERFALLS.
The perfect environment for artistic inspiration. Imagine this georgeous setting nestled on the edge of the rainforest, large rock boulders, waterfalls and tropical vegetation. The sound of wildlife, trickling water and Quiet.
This workshop provides a great opportunity for students wishing to get away, relax and paint beautiful surroundings. The day is both creative and informative and allows for self expression. The day starts with a 'How to Draw' demonstration, including establishing eye level in your work and applying a simple technique enabling you to draw in proportion, demonstrations are throughout the day. Great accomodation is available 3 & 5 star or camp. Plenty to keep a partner busy too!!!
Remember only 8 participants to a group, book now!
(we are able to take our cars to the point of workshop, no walking)

Historical Village
North Pine Country Park - Petrie,
Brisbane Northside.
Cost - $45.00

Experience stepping back in time and see a wealth of old pioneer dwellings, the village bank and post office, old railway station, the lock up, wooden church, farm buildings and machinery. Sit under the verandah of one of the old shops and let Janet teach you to capture that wealth of old charm. This workshop is suitable for students at all levels. Demonstrations occur throughout the day and students are tutored on a one to one basis. Always a delightful day, with great food & novelty shops to browse.
Colour Theory
Arana Hills Studio
, Brisbane
9.30am - 3.00pm

One usually draws breath, sighs and then conjures up all sorts of pre-conceived notions of what a 'Colour Theory' workshop is about. Think again, imagine foolproof formulas, dozens of them, to produce hormonic works every time. Designers and Patch Workers, this is a must for you too. FREE use of materials and paints on the day.
Painting At Fingals Head

You've asked for more venues on the Gold Coast, well here we are.
Fingals Head just on the border of N.S.W. a most inspiring place. The subjects are just boundless and great works can be produced or maybe you would just like to relax a little and learn to draw. You know anyone can!
Hey! And don't forget, if you have a partner!!! They could fish or sleep under the tree!!!
Well they can try!!!

Composition Made Easy
I've never been given a clear definition of composition, anf fing it hard to understand, can you explain composition to me? Yes! Yes! Yes!
A composition is a recollection of an experience; thought or feeling, that seeks to find expression and form on a flat surface. A composition can only have one focal point etc. etc. Help! Help! Help! Look don't worry, I will answer your question and show you a practical step by step approach to improving your composition
This is a fantastic inspiring workshop..
