Janet arrived in Australia in
1988, a Pom, fresh off the boat so to speak. She had, had
an art background throughout her career in the UK and had,
had the opportunity to design many hundreds of costumes, gowns
and props for the industry. However life took a turn, like
sometimes it does, and after several operations on her throat,
her voice was taken. It was 6 years before she could hold
a conversation. She says "I'm a firm believer that everything
happens for a reason," and her pathway in life then took
on the direction of expressing herself through her art. Between
1992 and 2008, Janet had completed some 104 works from life
of our railway history. She painted in oil, water colour and
pastel. As her voice returned she began to teach, and although
her study and varied background in art in the UK provided
her with the building blocks, it has been the sheer volume
of work that has provided Janet with the knowledge to teach
most subjects and media in art.
What Janet has found over the
years is the enormous interest, enthusiasm and yearning from
students wishing to learn art, from both children and adults,
with the eldest student being in her eighties and the youngest
just eight.
What she is striving to provide
is an environment where people of all levels can learn, are
accepted for and feel comfortable with the ability that they
have; that they are informed and encouraged, but most of all
that; they can continue along their pathway of creativity
with vision.

Anyone Can Draw
Intensive one day 'Sunday'
courses in defined areas, to suit students at varying
levels. The course covers material that could normally
take time, equal to that of six or seven weekly classes
and give students a head start in areas that they need
help with. They are really great days, always approached
with overwhelming enthusiasm in a relaxed and happy
environment.

Arana
Hills Studio (Northside Brisbane)
Contour & Gesture Drawing - $45.00 |
|
| An intensive one day workshop
on drawing and learning to free up - if you go to a singing
teacher, you will be taught breathing excercises, before
a song. You will not sing those excercises to an audience.
As with drawing, you should not expect to 'hang' anything
for some time. Your progress is charted not on paper,
but in the increased knowledge with which you look at
life around you. Do not be afraid of making technical
errors. The sooner you make the first thousand mistakes
the sooner you will be able to correct them. This is a
great workshop, fun and informative. |

demonstrations are throughout the day. Great accomodation

| One usually draws breath, sighs
and then conjures up all sorts of pre-conceived notions
of what a 'Colour Theory' workshop is about. Think again,
imagine foolproof formulas, dozens of them, to produce
hormonic works every time. Designers and Patch Workers,
this is a must for you too. FREE use of materials and
paints on the day. |

Made Easy |
I've never been given a clear definition of composition,
anf fing it hard to understand, can you explain composition
to me? Yes! Yes! Yes!
A composition is a recollection of an experience; thought
or feeling, that seeks to find expression and form on
a flat surface. A composition can only have one focal
point etc. etc. Help! Help! Help! Look don't worry, I
will answer your question and show you a practical step
by step approach to improving your composition
